Sticking with the factory settings and parts for diesel trucks is all well and good, but once you start getting into your truck a little more, you’ll get that feeling of wanting to get as much out of it as you can. This is usually the case with 6.7 Powerstrokes. While their horsepower is nothing to sneeze at initially, there’s a lot you can do to squeeze a little more power out of it. Here are a few ways to increase the horsepower on your 6.7 Powerstroke for the best drive possible.
An upgrade to the exhaust system can get you some extra horsepower, and it comes with the added bonus of improving any emissions problems your truck might have developed over time. The 6.7 Powerstroke has quite a few emission reduction systems in place to begin with, but you can improve on them while also getting more horsepower by switching to an aftermarket exhaust system.
You won’t find many mechanically-controlled diesel trucks anymore; almost all new ones are controlled electronically, which makes things much easier and more accessible. Adding in a custom gauge tuner can really give your truck some more get-up-and-go. The amount you spend on it does directly affect the performance increase you’ll get—the more expensive, the better. Improving the air intake system on your truck is one of the simplest ways to increase the horsepower on a 6.7 Powerstroke. It’s a great place to start because putting in a new intake doesn’t usually void your truck’s warranty. You want to be careful with your Powerstroke’s intercooler pipe. The 6.7 Powerstroke has an intercooler pipe that isn’t fastened down as well as it could be. It’s also made of plastic, which isn’t the ideal material for this particular pipe. When you try to increase your truck’s horsepower, this intercooler pipe can become a problem, so it may help you to get a replacement or an upgrade kit for it.
