The stock High Pressure Oil Pump on your 6.0L Power Stroke is a known point of failure. Whether it's a leaking seal, or complete internal destruction, it's never convenient and can leave you stranded and your engine with severe damage. But even if your HPOP hasn't failed yet, the pump is considered to be a wear item and will need to be replaced eventually, especially if your truck has run up higher mileage than most.

Because the HPOP equipped on the 6.0L Power Stroke is notorious for needing replacement sooner than expected, you should verify whether or not the pump is operating within its specified pressure between 3,000 and 4,000 psi at WOT and between 600-700 psi at idle. A minimum of 500 psi is needed to fire the injectors, but if your pump has failed then your truck will stall.
